What Campers and Parents Can Expect at Avid4 Adventure
At Avid4 Adventure, every camper is welcomed exactly as they are—we create an environment where every camper feels safe, seen, and celebrated. Whether your child is stepping into nature for the first time or is already a seasoned adventurer, they’ll be joining a community that values their whole self.
We embrace campers of all races, backgrounds, identities, and life experiences. Our staff is trained to create spaces where kids can be their authentic selves, try new things without fear, and build lasting friendships rooted in mutual respect.
We’re intentional about representation—among our staff, in our curriculum, and in our camp culture. Campers will see that the outdoors belongs to everyone, and that their voice matters here.
Outdoor adventure is more than climbing rocks or paddling lakes—it’s about building resilience, empathy, leadership, and the ability to work with people from different backgrounds. These are the lifelong skills campers gain when they explore with Avid.
Gender: We know that camp can be a powerful space for self-discovery and connection. Our staff is trained to support campers across the gender spectrum with sensitivity, care, and respect. This includes using inclusive language, offering gender-neutral options when appropriate, and ensuring that all campers feel a genuine sense of belonging.
We support campers and staff living in the cabin with the gender they most identify with (our cabins are divided into male/female). Campers are invited to express their gender identity in a way that is authentic to them and are never forced to share anything if that is what they prefer.
Pronouns: We honor and respect each camper and staff’s identity - by using the name and pronouns they prefer. Our staff is trained to talk about pronouns in age-appropriate ways that focus on kindness, respect, and inclusion. In our opening circles and introductions, staff and campers may share their pronouns - this is a personal choice and there is never any pressure to do so. You may also see staff members list their preferred pronouns on their name tags, which is again, optional.
We understand that for many families, this may be a new topic. Our goal is not to push a specific perspective, but to ensure that every camper experiences a sense of belonging. When kids feel seen for who they are, they’re more confident, connected, and better able to embrace the challenges and joys of outdoor adventure.
Sensitive Topics: Kids are naturally curious, and at times sensitive topics may arise at camp, such as religion or politics. Our staff are trained to redirect the conversation if it is not appropriate for the camp setting or age group. If there are sincere questions, we engage with curiosity and care, while also maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Our goal is to support campers in feeling seen, heard, and respected. We’re not just leading adventures. We’re helping shape a more inclusive future—one camper at a time.
